Lesson Horses

Riders train on our trusted school horses in our heated indoor arena with lights. Because of the indoor, riders can practice throughout the academic school year. For practice, riders only need to bring a helmet, comfortable long pants, and a heeled shoe.

Practice Schedule

The middle school riders ride during the PE block of their school day (twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays). The Wakefield bus brings them to practice at Beverly and then returns them to school before the end of the day so that they can participate in other after school activities. The upper school students practice after school Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The Wakefield bus brings them back and forth to practice. Riders receive PE credit and, in the case of upper school riders who compete, varsity credit.

Competitions

The students ride in Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) hunter seat competitions. Riders who are ready compete on the school horses at the show barns.  Riders compete as individuals and as a team. The regular season IEA competitions occur from August to February. The riders can participate in a maximum of 5 shows per regular season.

Beverly Equestrian offers a comprehensive competition team program for middle and upper school students that includes expert training, the use of our trusted school horses, and the opportunity to earn athletic credits through Wakefield School’s athletic department. With a focus on developing strong equitation skills over fences and on the flat, our team environment provides a supportive and encouraging space for all riders to thrive.

Follow Our Journey

Wakefield riders have the opportuntiey to not only show at IEA shows but ride familiar school horses at onsite VHSA shows and Junior Clinics at Beverly. In addition, those riders who lease or own horses can travel to offsite shows with the Beverly Show Teams.
