Enjoying an Elegant Tailgate Field-side at Beverly

Planning a perfect tailgate for a polo match involves a mix of elegance, practicality, and enjoyment. Here are some suggestions to help you organize a memorable event:

1. Location and Setup

- Arrive Early: Secure a good spot with a clear view of the field. Arriving early allows you to set up without feeling rushed.

- Seating: Provide comfortable seating such as foldable chairs and picnic blankets. Pop-up tents are not advisable because they can scare the ponies, especially if they get loose!

- Décor: Use themed decorations to enhance the ambiance. Incorporate the colors of the polo team you're supporting or classic equestrian motifs.

2. Food and Drinks

- Elegant Picnic Fare: Prepare a menu that includes gourmet sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, fruit, and finger foods. Avoid messy or overly complicated dishes.

- Refreshments: Offer a variety of drinks including sparkling water, lemonade, iced tea, wine, and champagne.

- Presentation: Use attractive serving platters, baskets, and coolers. Mason jars or stylish plastic cups can add a touch of class while being practical.

3. Dress Code

- Attire: “Finals” Wear: Encourage guests to dress in casual yet stylish clothing. Sundresses, polo shirts, and khakis are popular choices. For the finals, dressing up more than you would for a regular match is encouraged, to recognize the hard work and success of the teams that made it to the finals!

- Footwear: Suggest comfortable footwear since guests will be walking on grass.

4. Safety and Etiquette

- Rules and Regulations: Remember to stay at least 20 feet off of the boards because polo ponies can hop the boards to chase balls that get close to the edge.

-Dogs Leashed: Dogs are delightful but not if they get loose on the field on in someone's lunch! Please keep them leashed at all time.

- Respect for the Field: Consider helping out in the fun divot stomp at halftime and clean up your area thoroughly before leaving.
